We are recruiting for a pool of 40 Ushers to be part of ABSENT.
Audience members are not guided or led through ABSENT, they are left to their own devices to discover the route as they go. Along the route, Ushers will be in costume and “in role” as members of the hotel staff. Although there is usually no direct verbal interaction with the audience (unless initiated by an audience member who might need help) the presence of each member of staff is crucial to the surreal and slightly unsettling effect of the whole experience.
The health and safety of audience members is a crucial part of the role (full training provided). There will also be a workshop with the artistic director which will focus on “in role” audience management and developing a sense of presence.
